2022 Buick Enclave
It’s always exciting when a vehicle comes back for the new model year with significant changes, but even more so when it’s a flagship nameplate. Such is the case with the 2022 Enclave, which perches at the top of Buick’s lineup of abundantly outfitted vehicles. The automaker’s signature model packs in a ton of great features at a much more approachable price than similarly equipped rivals. Plus, its already high appeal has been dialed up a few notches with 2022’s changes. This refreshed version also boasts a sleek new style, additional standard safety features, and more advanced technologies, like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
There are quite a few fresh and exciting elements in the 2022 Enclave, starting with the changes we alluded to in its outward appearance, where it gets modernized front and rear bumpers, new headlights and taillights, a new Sport Touring grille, and redesigned wheels. The interior has been updated with a new center console featuring a push-button-style electronic gear shifter that replaces the manual selector. The cabin has also been given a more upscale treatment with pleasant soft-touch materials throughout, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is now standard for really convenient connectivity. Some highlights of the available options for the lower trims are a rear camera mirror, a color head-up display, and heated, ventilated, and massage-capable front seats.
At the top of the trim range, the Avenir will also receive a significant slate of upgrades. Its exterior shows off distinct front and rear bumpers, a trim-exclusive grille, a new liftgate emblem, body-colored lower trim, upgraded 20-inch wheels, and a chrome cargo-area sill plate. The deluxe (heated, ventilated, and massaging) front seats are standard, and they’re also upgraded with special stitching and piping.
Notable Performance and Fuel Economy
Like the outgoing Enclave, the 2022 version will get a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 310 hp and 266 lb.-ft. of torque joined to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front wheel-drive will be standard across the range, though all-wheel drive will be available. The EPA estimates that with FWD the ’22 Enclave will return 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. With AWD, fuel economy will dip just a hair to 17 city/25 highway. If you plan on towing some equipment, you’ll appreciate that the ’22 Enclave is rated to pull up to 5,000 pounds.
Safety and Technology
For 2022, the Enclave gets a ton of standard safety features through the Driver Confidence Plus Package (which was an added-cost option last year). The package contains automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, lane change alert with side blind-zone alert, front and rear park assist, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Rear pedestrian alert and an HD surround-view camera system are available. In the Avenir, adaptive cruise control and enhanced automatic emergency braking come standard.
