The Chevrolet Traverse cruises into the 2022 model year with a freshened-up exterior and added standard features. The new look on both the front and rear ends starts with revamped lighting designs that complete a modern and dynamic look. All trims now include advanced safety technology and an updated infotainment system with smartphone integration, and the RS and higher trims have standard power-folding heated exterior mirrors. The Traverse is spacious and comfortable, with ample room for seven or eight. There’s plenty of room for everyone’s stuff as well, with 57.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 23 cubic feet when all seats are in use.

Trims and Powertrain

Chevrolet offers a choice of a half-dozen ‘22 Traverse trims: LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country. All versions have a nine-speed automatic transmission and a 3.6-liter V6 engine making 310 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is available. The EPA-estimated fuel economy is 18 city/27 highway with FWD and 17 city/25 highway with AWD. A properly equipped Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Standard Features

The base LS gets LED exterior lighting, automatic on/off headlamps, heated power mirrors, deep-tinted rear glass, keyless entry, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. Interior features include tri-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, eight-passenger seating, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, and second- and third-row 60/40-split folding seats. The LT Cloth trim adds roof rails, mirror-mounted turn-signal indicators, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar control, and seven-passenger seating with second-row captain’s chairs (a return to the second-row bench for eight-passenger seating is optional). This trim may be upgraded with the optional power liftgate, heated front seats, and remote start.

The LT Leather trim gets the power liftgate and remote start as standard equipment and adds a 4.2-inch driver information display and leather-trimmed first- and second-row seating (the third row is upholstered in durable vinyl). The LS and LT trims are available with the Midnight/Sport Edition package (black-finished 18-inch wheels and black exterior accents). The optional LT Leather Premium Package adds 20-inch wheels, power-folding mirrors, and safety tech and infotainment upgrades (more information is provided below). The RS gets the contents of the LT Leather Premium Package, along with 20-inch dark aluminum wheels, unique black exterior accents, and active aero grille shutters (for improved fuel economy). The RS and higher trims come standard with second-row captain’s chairs for seven-passenger seating.

The Premier trim earns its name by including all of the features in the LT Leather with Premium Package plus an upgraded power tailgate, power-folding mirrors, chrome exterior accents, a driver’s memory system, a power tilt/telescopic steering column, and perforated leather first-and second-row seating. At the top of the line, the High Country comes with the trailering package, a heated steering wheel, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, a power moonroof, and upgraded perforated leather seating for the first and second rows (heated and ventilated in front).

Advanced Safety Technology

As we said in the intro, Chevy Safety Assist is standard across the Traverse lineup. This driver-assist technology bundle includes forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, and a following distance indicator. Enhanced automatic emergency braking is included with the LT Leather with the Premium Package and higher trims. Rear cross-traffic and lane-change alert with side blind zone alert are standard on the LT Cloth and higher. Rear park assist is available on all trims, and Chevy’s Safety Alert Seat (the driver’s seat vibrates to call attention to an obstacle ahead) is exclusive to the Premier and High Country. Most of these safety upgrades (except the Safety Alert Seat) are included on the LS when it’s ordered with the optional Safety Package.

Infotainment and Optional Packages

The connectivity features for the LS and LT Cloth includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system set up with SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six USB ports (two per row), and access to a Wi-Fi hotspot and Chevrolet Connect remote services. The system upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen at the LT Leather level. A six-speaker audio system is included with the LS, LT Cloth, and LT Leather, but the standard setup changes to a ten-speaker Bose system with navigation on the RS, Premier, and High Country (also included on the LT Leather trim when equipped with the LT Premium Package).
