The ever-popular GMC Acadia moves into the 2022 model year with some exciting changes. All trim levels now get a selection of advanced driver-assist technologies as standard equipment, and the trail-ready AT4 rounds out the lineup with added ruggedness. With three different seating configurations for five to seven passengers, the Acadia offers the ideal blend of utility and comfort without unnecessary bulk. It offers 13 cubic feet of rear cargo space when all rows are occupied with passengers, and 79 cu. ft. of total cargo area with the second and third rows folded flat. If you add the optional Trailering Package to your 2022 Acadia, it can tow up to 4,000 pounds.
Powertrains and Capabilities
The four Acadia trims are the SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The standard engine for the SLE and SLT is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 230 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque (this engine is also available on the Denali). Available on the SLT and standard on the AT4 and Denali is a 3.6-liter V-6 engine rated for 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. All Acadias have a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on the AT4. The other trims come standard with front-wheel drive (FWD) with AWD available.
The ‘22 Acadia returns good fuel economy: according to the official EPA ratings, the turbo four-cylinder/FWD combo gets 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which changes to 22 city/27 highway with the all-wheel drivetrain. Six-cylinder versions get 19 city/27 highway with FWD and 19 city/26 highway with AWD.
Standard and Optional Features
The SLE gets some excellent standard equipment, especially for an entry-level trim. The highlights are tri-zone automatic climate control, heated power side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, a 4.2-inch driver information display, a tilt and telescopic steering column, keyless ignition and entry, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and deep-tinted glass (excluding the windshield and front windows). The seats are upholstered in cloth and the standard array fits six, with two passengers in each of the three rows. The available Driver Convenience Package will furnish remote start, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar control, a hands-free power liftgate, and roof rails. The SLT upgrades the list with LED fog lights, perforated leather upholstery, a leather steering wheel, and the features of the Driver Convenience package.
The AT4 focuses on off-road driving, with all-terrain tires on 17-inch alloy wheels; cloth seats come standard, but perforated leather seating is optional. The Denali has chrome 20-inch alloy wheels, a trim-specific grille and exterior accents, an 8-inch driver information display, and an eight-way power front passenger seat with lumbar control. Buyers can opt for the Denali Ultimate Package to get a dual-pane power sunroof, an adaptive suspension, a towing package, and additional safety gear.
All trims can be ordered with the dual-pane power sunroof and a second-row bench in lieu of captain’s chairs to accommodate seven passengers. The SLE and SLT are eligible for the Elevation Edition option (20-inch black finished aluminum alloys with all-season blackwall tires, a black grille, and black exterior trim and badging). The Preferred Package is standard on the Denali and available on the SLT and AT4. This adds position memory settings for the driver’s seat and outside mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, an automatic heated steering wheel, and power heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators and power-folding feature.
Safety and Technology

The Technology Package, which includes a head-up display and a surround-view monitor, is offered for the SLT and AT4 but comes standard on the Denali. Buyers of the Denali can add adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking, a rear camera mirror, and a rear camera mirror washer.
The base infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker audio system, USB ports in all rows, access to OnStar and GM Connected Services telematics, SiriusXM satellite radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SLT and higher get navigation and upgrade to a Bose sound system with eight speakers. Wireless device charging is available on the SLT and AT4 and standard on the Denali. A 120-volt outlet is available on the SLE and standard on all other trims.
