Trims and Powertrains
The Preferred starts off the 2023 Encore GX’s lineup, followed by the mid-tier Select and the loaded Essence. All trims come standard with front-wheel drive (FWD), with all-wheel drive (AWD) optional. The Preferred and Select have a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that makes 137 horsepower, while the Essence and other AWD-equipped versions get a 155 hp turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder powerplant (it’s also an available upgrade on the FWD Select).
A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is paired with the base engine, while the larger engine goes with a nine-speed automatic. Standard Features and Optional Packages

Among the available upgrades for this trim is the Experience Buick Package (a power panoramic moonroof and high-gloss 18-inch wheels). The Essence trim gets the most standard luxury features, with the likes of leather-trimmed seats, LED exterior lighting, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, an eight-way power front passenger seat with a fold-flat feature, a driver’s position memory system, delay-enabled automatic headlights, chrome bumper accents, a 120-volt outlet, and an electric auxiliary heater. Every 2023 Encore GX comes with the Buick Driver Confidence suite (forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, and lane keep assist with lane departure warning). The Preferred is eligible for additional driver-assist technologies via the Safety Package (rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, adaptive cruise control, and rear park assist). The version of this for the Select and Essence, called Safety Package II, omits adaptive cruise control and rear park assist. Infotainment and Connectivity
An 8-inch touchscreen serves as the command center for the Encore GX’s infotainment system, controlling features such as wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, and the Wi-Fi hotspot. OnStar and Buick Connected Services are also standard. Navigation comes with the aforementioned Advanced Technology Package. All trims get an audio system with six speakers, but a seven-speaker Bose sound system is optional on the Essence.
