Trims and Configurations

There are eight trim levels (Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate) for the 2023 Sierra, along with three cab styles (crew, regular, and double) and three box sizes (standard, short, and long). The crew cab pairs with the short and standard boxes, the double cab with the standard box, and the regular cab with the standard and long boxes. The Pro can be configured in any of those styles. The SLE and Elevation are offered as crew cabs with both the short and standard boxes, or as double cabs with the standard box. The SLT and Denali are limited to the crew cab/short bed arrangement. The crew cab Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, and Denali qualify for a standard bed in conjunction with the 4-wheel drivetrain. The AT4 is 4WD-only and is sold exclusively as a crew cab with the short or standard bed. The AT4X and Denali Ultimate can only be ordered with the crew cab/short bed setup.

Powertrains and Capabilities

There are four engine options for the ’23 Sierra 1500: a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder (310 hp and 430 lb.-ft. of torque), a 5.3-liter V8 (355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque), a 6.2-liter V8 (420 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque), and a 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel, which boasts a class-best 305 hp and 495 lb.-ft. of torque. The Pro, SLE, and Elevation each get the 2.7-liter turbo. The SLT and Denali come with the 5.3-liter V8, which is optional for the Pro, SLE, and Elevation. The 6.2-liter V8 is standard in the AT4X and Denali Ultimate and optional on the AT4, 4WD SLT, and Denali. Meanwhile, the 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel is standard in the AT4 and offered with the SLE, Elevation, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

The 2.7-liter four-cylinder pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the other engines get a 10-speed automatic (an electronic precision-shift 10-speed is provided in models with front bucket seats). While rear-wheel drive is standard in the Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, and Denali, four-wheel drive is available on all of those trims; 4WD is standard on the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. Sierras with the 2.7-liter turbo have a 9,400-pound towing maximum, while those with the 5.3-liter V8 can tow up to 11,200 lb. The 6.2-liter V8 and the 3.0-liter Duramax tap out at a best-in-class 13,000 lb.

Notable Equipment

The Pro trim has an assortment of essential features mixed with upgrades, such as LED headlights and daytime running lights, 17-inch wheels, cab-mounted cargo lights, a locking tailgate, remote keyless entry, a 12-volt interior power outlet, two USB data/charge ports, and a 40/20/40-split front bench seat with under-seat storage. The SLE is enhanced with heated side mirrors, rear privacy glass, the six-function MultiPro tailgate with EZ Lift power lock and release, keyless entry, remote start, push-button ignition, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, two 120-volt power outlets, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats with driver’s power adjustments, a heated steering wheel, and two rear USB charging ports. The Elevation is issued LED fog lights, 20-inch wheels, and a rear window defogger. The SLT gets 18-inch wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors, a power front passenger’s seat, position memory for the driver’s seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The AT4 is extra ready to travel off the pavement with its two-speed transfer case, heavy-duty air filter, hill descent control, off-road suspension with a 2-inch factory lift, red recovery hooks, multiple skid plates, and 18-inch wheels with Mud-Terrain Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires. On top of that, it gets a few trailering assists (an in-vehicle trailering app, a trailer brake controller, and hitch guidance with hitch view), as well as a spray-on bedliner, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, and heated rear outboard seats. The AT4X is even more imposing thanks to its class-exclusive locking front and rear differentials, a transmission and engine oil cooler, a special Terrain Mode with one-pedal driving, and Multimatic DSSV dampers. Not only that, but it has a handy tailgate audio system, a power-sliding rear window, a moonroof, a bed view camera system, front bucket seats, a 15-inch head-up display, and a HomeLink universal garage door opener.

The luxurious Denali has a list of sought-after features, such as 20-inch wheels, a power-sliding rear window, a spray-on bedliner, heated rear outboard seats, hitch guidance with hitch view, in-vehicle trailering app, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, HomeLink, ventilated front seats, and wireless phone charging). The Denali Ultimate is the most upscale of the bunch, marked by 22-inch wheels, a Denali Premium Suspension with segment-first Adaptive Ride Control, power assist steps, and the standout contents of the AT4X (the two-speed transfer case, hill descent control, tailgate audio system, moonroof, and head-up display). If you’re building a Sierra to order that most of those deluxe features can be ordered for the lower-level trims via packages.

Active Safety Features

All 2023 Sierras get a package of advanced driver-assist technologies. The Pro has forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and Buckle-to-Drive, which keeps the car parked until the seatbelts are fastened. The AT4 is outfitted with a safety alert seat (which pulses in the direction of a potential obstacle to make sure the driver is aware), while the AT4X and Denali are upgraded with front and rear parking sensors, a 14-view camera system, rear cross-traffic braking, rear pedestrian alert, and trailer side blind-zone alert. The Denali Ultimate is eligible for advanced automatic emergency braking and Super Cruise, the industry’s first hands-free driving system, which can be used on more than 200,000 miles of compatible divided highways in the U.S. and Canada.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Pro’s infotainment setup consists of a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker audio system. The SLE, Elevation, and SLT are each stocked with a configurable 13.4-inch touchscreen with built-in Google, voice recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio. While the AT4 receives a premier 7-speaker Bose sound system, the AT4X boasts a higher-level Bose with 12 speakers. The Denali gets the 7-speaker unit, while the Denali Ultimate has the 12-speaker version. Some of these premium multimedia amenities are available on an optional basis for trims that don’t get them standard.
