Buick makes the 2024 Encore GX in three trims: Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir. The Preferred gets a standard turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine producing 137 hp and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. For a little extra power, it’s eligible for a turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder making 155 hp and 174 lb.-ft. of torque; this powerplant is standard in the Sport Touring and Avenir. Models with front-wheel drive come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while all-wheel drive versions use a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
With FWD, the Preferred returns an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, but with AWD, it achieves 26 city/28 highway. The FWD Sport Touring and Avenir pull off 29 city/31 highway, whereas the AWD variants return 26 city/28 highway.
Buick supplies the base Preferred with some notable features, like automatic LED headlights, heated side mirrors, rear privacy glass, proximity keyless entry, push-button ignition, an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, four USB ports (two Type-A data and two Type-C charging), active noise control and cancelation tech, and a 60/40-split folding rear seatback. The sharper Sport Touring gets a unique exterior styling treatment with high-gloss black accents, plus LED taillights and roof rails. With the classy and newly introduced Avenir, you’ll get to enjoy remote start, a 120V power outlet, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a power fold-flat front passenger’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with humidity sensing, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, two-position memory settings (for the driver’s seat and side mirrors), and a universal garage door opener.
The redesigned Encore GX comes with a number of standard safety technologies, such as forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, a following distance indicator, lane change alert with side blind-zone alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear seat reminder. Aside from that, but all trims receive Teen Driver (a helpful system that encourages better driving habits for new drivers) and Buckle to Drive (which prevents the car from being shifted out of park if the driver’s seatbelt isn’t fastened).
Every ’24 Encore GX trim has an infotainment system with an 11-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a seven-speaker sound system. Buick also includes a three-year trial to GM’s OnStar with all trim levels (the Avenir comes with the OnStar Premium Plan with additional connected services).
Encore GX buyers can order additional amenities through optional packages. The Advanced Technology Package for the Preferred and Sport Touring bundles adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, and a wireless phone charger. The same trims can also be heightened with the Comfort Package (heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, a flat-folding front passenger seatback, a rear center armrest, and remote start). The Sport Touring is eligible for the Experience Buick Package (a panoramic sunroof and larger gloss-black wheels), while the Black Roof Package supplies exactly what you the name suggests.
The Avenir is also offered with two exclusive packages: Convenience and Technology. The Convenience Package consists of a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, and a seven-speaker Bose audio system, whereas the Technology Package has adaptive cruise control, a rear camera mirror with an integrated washer, a surround-view camera, and wireless phone charging. All trims can be optioned with the Trailering Package (which delivers a trailer hitch and a trailering harness) and the Road Trip Package (all-weather floor liners and roof rack cross rails).
