2021 Buick Encore for Sale in Springfield, MA
It seems that nearly every driver wants a compact crossover these days, and the 2021 Buick Encore represents the entry point within General Motors’ premium auto brand. It’s a budget-friendly yet well-appointed option with upscale features but without a daunting monthly payment. This latest Encore may be a subcompact crossover, but it’s surprisingly roomy, offering 18.8 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the second row and 48.4 cu. ft. with the second row folded down. It’s constructed with top-shelf materials that will make you wonder why it wasn’t more expensive.
For the 2021 model year, Buick has streamlined the Encore’s trim lineup to a simplified pair, the base and Preferred, but they’ve realigned the standard equipment list to add some new active safety features. There are also a couple new exterior color options: Dark Moon Blue Metallic and Cinnabar Metallic.
Trims, Powertrain and Fuel Economy
The 2021 Buick Encore is available in 1SV (base) and Preferred trim levels, both of which come standard as front-wheel drive (all-wheel drive is offered only on the Preferred). They get the same powertrain: a 138 hp 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine joined to a six-speed automatic transmission. According to EPA fuel economy estimates, the two FWD trims achieve 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The AWD Preferred returns 24 city/29 highway.
The base 1SV comes with 18-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, roof-mounted side rails, keyless entry, LED daytime running lights, an acoustic-glass laminated windshield and active noise cancellation for a quiet cabin, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a rearview camera system. The higher-level Preferred is eligible for a broad series of optional amenities, highlighted by remote start, a sunroof, a cargo area tray, all-weather floor mats, roof rack cross rails, and a 120-volt power outlet.
Safety and Technology
Like the 2020 version that preceded it, the 2021 Buick Encore was bestowed with a five-star crash test safety rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which is the highest accolade that’s given by the organization. In terms of active safety content, the Preferred qualifies for a Safety Package (blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert), but the base trim is not. Forward collision alert, lane departure warning, front and rear park assist, and rain-sensing wipers are now available on this higher trim.
Both of the 2021 Buick Encore trims are set up with high-quality tech amenities. This includes an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Siri Eyes Free and voice recognition for radio and phone, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming capability, two USB ports, an onboard 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (through GM’s OnStar communications system), and a six-speaker audio system.
